Tales of Two States
The story of Tennesee and Texas and the similies are amazing.
Tennessee was developed on a westward movement from the East. Texas was developed from Westward movement as well. Both states were initially populated by those that had the need to be one with the earth, they wanted to farm and ranch. Both states have very diverse geographical areas, from woods to plains and in between. Both have waterways and lakes, both have forests.
As the people moved to the country, they were amazed at the new fertile lands they could tend. As some settlers came to Texas, there were grasslands with grass over 12 feet high, and were scared to leave the trails for fear of becoming lost in the grasses.
In Texas History, one individual, David Crockett, became not only a hero to the Tennessean's but to Texans as wee, as he laid down his life, regardless of the version of History, at the Alamo.
From that point on Texas and Tennessee history has been tightly intertwined. In the War between the States, American Civil War, War of Northern Aggression, whatever you want to call it, the Texans and Tennessean fought shoulder to shoulder, all wearing the Gray.
The Hero's coming out of those wars and states continue, in WW I, Alvin York from Tenn. WWII Audie Murphy from Tex. There are hero's from every level as well. This writer considers each and every individual that has served or is serving, in the Active or Reserve components a Hero.
